Possessive and Caritive in Nivkh

Abstract This paper focuses on the various encoding strategies and other relevant issues pertaining to affirmative negative predicative possession in two Amuric languages, Amur Nivkh Sakhalin (Nighvng). One of goals is demonstrate that possessive negation serves as a major strategy for expressing caritive semantics (= non-involvement). Constructions rendering meanings represent one basic rather frequent types clauses Nivkh, they are also interconnected both semantically grammatically with clause types. Some constructions present have analogues neighboring while others specific Nivkh. The paper, based author’s field materials, represents first study this topic.
